The original three bedroom, two bath home was 1967 square feet, all on a single level. The owners wanted a “new” house with a light, open, airy feeling. They also wished to add a master suite and additional portals. In order to save outdoor space for gardens and entertaining, and to also take advantage of the views from above, the best design solution was to add a pitched roof, second story addition. The newly remodeled home would be lighter, brighter and even warmer, with captured solar gain. The addition would add 1200 heated square feet to the home, as well as a beautiful 432 square foot covered portal, with exterior stairs leading to the gardens.
The second story addition, combined with a remodeled kitchen and master bath, created virtually a new home. Construction management techniques, combined with precise scheduling, allowed the owners to continue occupying their home during this extensive project. In order to make the job more cost effective, Prull & Associates worked with the owners to enable them to complete many of the final finishes themselves.
This home is an example of how Prull & Associates can transform a smaller, darker space into an inviting, bright, and expansive home. The dramatic new interior stairwell, with tall windows, now floods the downstairs hall with light. Projects of this type are allowing homeowners to create entirely new living spaces, for less of an investment, and without selling their existing home.
